History is filled with examples of atrocities committed in the name of religion, from the Crusades to the Spanish Inquisition. It is clear that simply believing in a higher power does not guarantee moral behavior.- The idea that morality does not require religion is not only supported by evidence but also offers a more compelling explanation for the existence of moral codes. By recognizing that morality can exist independently of religion, we open ourselves up to a more nuanced understanding of ethics and a greater appreciation for the complexity of human morality.
