In the end, as the characters in the novel grappled with the passage of time, they came to realize that perspectives and priorities are not fixed but fluid, constantly shifting and evolving with the changing tides of life. What once seemed of utmost importance may one day fade into insignificance, while new concerns and values rise to take their place.
