The gift of the magi is the gift of love from "summary" of The Gift of the Magi (Illustrated) by O. Henry

In a small apartment lived a young couple, Della and Jim. They loved each other deeply but had little money to buy each other Christmas gifts. Della had beautiful, long hair that she was proud of, while Jim had a pocket watch that he treasured. Della wanted to show Jim how much she loved him, so she decided to sell her hair to buy him a present. She went to a shop and sold her hair for twenty dollars. With the money, she bought a platinum fob chain for Jim's watch. Meanwhile, Jim wanted to buy something special for Della too. He decided to sell his watch, which had been his family heirloom, to buy her a present. With the money he got from selling the watch, he bought beautiful combs for Della's hair. When they exchanged gifts on Christmas day, they were surprised to see what the other had done. Della had short hair now, but she didn't care because she had bought a gift for Jim out of love. Jim had sold his watch, but he didn't mind because he had bought a gift for Della out of love. In the end, they realized that the true gift was not the material things they had bought but the love they had for each other. Their sacrifices showed the depth of their love and how they were willing to give up something precious to make the other happy. Love was the true gift they had given each other, and it was more valuable than any material possession.
