Money is a means to an end, not an end itself from "summary" of The Geometry of Wealth by Brian Portnoy

Money is a means to an end, not an end itself. This idea is not new, but it's one that many of us struggle to fully embrace. Our society is structured in a way that places a high value on wealth and material possessions. We are bombarded with messages that tell us that money is the key to happiness and success. It's easy to get caught up in this mindset and to start believing that the accumulation of wealth is the ultimate goal. But the truth is, money is simply a tool that can help us achieve our goals and live a fulfilling life. It's a means to an end, not an end itself. When we lose sight of this fact, we can easily fall into the trap of chasing after more and more money in a never-ending quest for happiness. We start to measure our worth by our bank account balance and judge ourselves based on our material possessions. This mindset can be incredibly damaging. It can lead to feelings of inadequacy, jealousy, and greed. It can cause us to prioritize work over relationships, and to sacrifice our health and well-being in the pursuit of wealth. When we make money the focus of our lives, we lose sight of what truly matters. We forget about the things that bring us joy and fulfillment, like spending time with loved ones, pursuing our passions, and making a positive impact on the world. To break free from this cycle, we need to shift our perspective on money. We need to see it for what it truly is – a means to an end. When we view money in this way, we can start to use it more intentionally, as a tool to help us achieve our goals and live a meaningful life. We can focus on building wealth not just for the sake of having more money, but for the purpose of creating the life we desire. By redefining our relationship with money and recognizing it as a means to an end, we can free ourselves from the pressure to constantly chase after more wealth. We can start to prioritize the things that truly matter and find greater fulfillment and happiness in the process. Money is just a tool – it's up to us to decide how we want to wield it.
