Singularity & posthuman era from "summary" of The Future of Humanity by Michio Kaku

The posthuman era is a fascinating concept that imagines a future where humans have conquered the limitations of their biological bodies through technology, allowing us to live indefinitely and travel to the stars. Singularity is the idea that this transformation can be achieved through artificial intelligence and robotics.
  1. Humans may witness the groundbreaking technology of singularity in their lifetime - and it could fundamentally change life situation drastically before our eyes. Emerging artificial intelligence, advanced biotechnology and nanorobotics have a potential to make posthuman era within our reach.

  3. Singularity may be a mixture of technologies that can facilitate a world-changing impact on humanity, such as exponentially advancing computing power, radically improving AI abilities and evermore penetrating robotics into our lives.
  4. The process of achieving full Singularity could happen gradually or abruptly over a space of years, leading to the end of classic human civilization and paving the road for an entirely new posthuman society.
  5. Once the boundaries between man and machine blur, perfect cognitive faculties, immortality and technological network of interconnectivity among individuals can become reality! This would lead to sweeping welfare and economic gains, but also open up questions about the very meaning of humanity.
  6. Autonomous intelligent machines are now surpassing humans in many fields with incredible speed and assimilation. As they become more sophisticated and pervasive, these threats will multiply rapidly and bring us to post human era.
  7. Complex computer systems powered by deep learning algorithms may disrupt entire industries and transform the way we live and work today. Although there is no guarantee, people should not negate the possibility of a future where we all become cyborgs and merge with machines.
  8. Mind uploading techniques have already been attempted and even if extremely challenging, transferring information between biological and digital networks is getting increasingly close. We must keep developing ethical standards and rules to help us form wise decisions as this new post-Singularity era dawns.
