Love requires vulnerability and courage. It is the willingness to expose our tender hearts to another person, to open ourselves up to the possibility of being hurt or rejected. In order to truly love someone, we must be willing to let down our walls and allow them to see us for who we really are. This requires a great deal of courage, as it can be frightening to be so exposed and vulnerable. When we love someone, we are essentially giving them the power to hurt us.
