Traditional discipline methods are not effective from "summary" of The Explosive Child by Ross W. Greene, PhD
Traditional discipline methods are not effective. In other words, the typical strategies that parents and teachers often rely on when children misbehave - such as time-outs, loss of privileges, or even harsh punishments - are not getting the job done. This is a central premise of the Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) model, which is the alternative approach to managing challenging behavior that I propose in this book. One of the main reasons why traditional discipline methods fail is that they do not address the underlying causes of a child's challenging behavior. Punishments may temporarily suppress the behavior, but they do not teach the child how to regulate their emotions, solve problems, or communicate effectively. Furthermore, these methods can strain the parent-child or teacher-student relationship, leading to even more conflict and resistance. ...Similar Posts
