Topdown control stifles progress from "summary" of The Evolution of Everything by Matt Ridley
Central planning and top-down control have long been perceived as the best way to achieve progress and prosperity. In contrast, a bottom-up approach allows for decentralized decision-making and individual autonomy. When people are free to pursue their own interests and ideas, a diverse range of solutions can emerge. This diversity fosters competition and drives innovation, leading to progress in ways that centralized control could never achieve. Furthermore, bottom-up systems are more resilient and adaptable to change. Decisions can be made quickly and efficiently at the local level, without the need for lengthy bureaucratic processes. This flexibility enables societies to respond to challenges and opportunities in a more agile manner.- Progress is not something that can be dictated from above. It is the result of countless individual actions and interactions, shaped by the forces of evolution. Embracing bottom-up approaches allows for the organic growth and development of society, leading to innovation and advancement in ways that top-down control could never achieve.
