Consistency is overrated from "summary" of The Essays by Michel de Montaigne
Consistency, in the eyes of some, may be seen as a virtue to uphold at all costs. However, I find myself questioning this notion in my own reflections. Is it truly necessary to always maintain a consistent stance or viewpoint on all matters? I am inclined to think not. Life itself is ever-changing, filled with complexities and uncertainties that may require a shift in perspective from time to time. To rigidly adhere to a single belief or opinion despite new information or experiences seems rather close-minded and limiting.
In my own musings, I have come to embrace the idea that it is perfectly acceptable, and even beneficial, to hold seemingly contradictory thoughts or feelings on a subject. This allows for a more nuanced understanding of the world around us, acknowledging the multifaceted nature of human existence.
To be consistent simply for the sake of consistency may lead to a lack of growth and personal development. It is through embracing the inconsistencies and contradictions within ourselves that we are able to evolve and expand our horizons.
In the grand scheme of things, it is the ability to adapt and evolve that truly matters, rather than maintaining an unwavering consistency in all aspects of life. By embracing the ebb and flow of our thoughts and beliefs, we open ourselves up to new possibilities and opportunities for growth and self-discovery.
Therefore, I propose that perhaps consistency is not the ultimate goal to strive for, but rather a willingness to embrace the complexities and contradictions that make us human. It is through this acceptance of our own inconsistencies that we are able to truly engage with the world in a meaningful and authentic way.
