Confronting Mara, the tempter from "summary" of The Epic of the Buddha by Chittadhar Hrdaya

As the Buddha sat beneath the Bodhi tree, his mind steadfast and his body unmoving, Mara, the tempter, approached with a host of demons. Mara sought to distract the Buddha from his path to enlightenment, to sow doubt and confusion in his mind. But the Buddha remained resolute, his focus unwavering. Mara, seeing that his usual tricks were failing, resorted to more subtle forms of temptation. He whispered words of doubt and desire, seeking to undermine the Buddha's resolve. He conjured visions of beautiful maidens, of power and glory, trying to lure the Buddha away from his path. But the Buddha saw through Mara's illusions. He recognized them for what they were - distractions meant to lead him astray. With a calm mind and a steady heart, the Buddha confronted Mara, his voice firm and unwavering. He spoke of the impermanence of worldly pleasures, of the futility of desire and attachment. Mara, realizing that he could not sway the Buddha from his path, unleashed a final assault. He called upon his army of demons to attack the Buddha, to overwhelm him with fear and doubt. But the Buddha remained unmoved, his mind clear and his heart full of compassion. In the face of Mara's relentless temptations, the Buddha remained steadfast. He confronted the tempter with wisdom and compassion, showing that true strength lies not in power or wealth, but in the purity of heart and mind. And so, Mara, defeated and dejected, fled from the presence of the Buddha, leaving him to continue on his path to enlightenment.
