We are responsible for the fate of the planet from "summary" of The End of Nature by Bill McKibben

Humans have come to realize that they hold the fate of the planet in their hands. The actions we take today will determine the course of the Earth's future. This responsibility is not one that can be brushed aside or ignored. It is a burden that we must carry with us every day, in every decision we make. As we continue to pump greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, we are altering the very essence of the planet. The climate is changing, the weather patterns are shifting, and the consequences are becoming increasingly dire. We are no longer just passive observers of nature; we are active participants in its destruction. There is no longer room for complacency or ignorance. We must acknowledge the role we play in shaping the world around us and take action to mitigate the damage we have caused. This means making difficult choices and sacrifices for the greater good of the planet. The fate of the Earth is inextricably linked to our own fate. If we continue on our current path of destruction, we will ultimately seal our own demise. But if we choose to take responsibility for our actions and work towards a more sustainable future, we have the power to change the course of history. It is up to us to decide which path we will take. Will we continue down the road of destruction, or will we choose to be stewards of the Earth, protecting and preserving it for future generations? The choice is ours to make, but the consequences will be felt by all.
