In the latter part of the seventeenth century, a group of Quakers made their way to Pennsylvania, a colony that was founded by William Penn in 1681. Penn, a prominent Quaker himself, envisioned Pennsylvania as a place where people could practice their religion freely and live in harmony with one another.
