The baffling paradox of management is that it is both essential and completely insane at the same time. On one hand, organizations need some level of management in order to function efficiently. But on the other hand, the people who are put in charge of managing others often have no idea what they are doing. One of the key reasons for this paradox is that many managers are promoted based on their technical skills rather than their ability to lead and inspire others. This results in a situation where someone who was once a competent individual contributor is suddenly expected to excel in a completely different role for which they may not be prepared.
