Arms indicate approval from "summary" of The Dictionary of Body Language by Joe Navarro

When a person crosses their arms, it can be a sign of agreement or approval. It can be a sign that the person is happy with a situation, and is comfortable and relaxed. Crossing the arms is a common body language gesture that often tells us how a person is feeling.
  1. Crossing arms in front of the chest might suggest defensiveness or disgust. On the contrary, arms that are crossed behind the back symbolize respect and appreciation. Such postures are often adopted during conversations in order to create a strong impression of approval.

  3. Open palms are one way people show that they are open to listening to another person's opinion. By slightly extending arms away from the body and opening the palms upward, it conveys the same meaning as saying “give me your ideas”.
  4. Raising hands during conversation sends a clear message that a speaker wants to be heard. In some circumstances, it also implies that the person has the right to talk without interruptions. Along with open palms, raised hands signify receptiveness and interest in what somebody else has to say.
  5. Clasping hands together is often seen as a sign of approval or acceptance, especially in cultures where physical contact between people isn't normal. It can be an expression of confidence and trust when used as a greeting.
  6. Smiling, nodding and other facial expressions are common signs that indicate approval or agreement. Similarly, gestures such as a thumbs up or giving the "OK" sign allow others to know that they have received positive feedback.
  7. Pointing fingers at someone can be perceived as aggressive behaviour. However, it can also be used to express support towards something by indicating a certain direction. When used in combination with smiles or nods, pointing can become a gesture of approval.
  8. Prolonged handshakes are an international sign of both friendship and admiration. Connecting two hands tightly and shaking them slowly implies a great deal of mutual understanding between two individuals. This gesture even becomes more meaningful when accompanied by steady eye-contact.
