Trust is in short supply in the town from "summary" of The Dead Don’t Mind: A Suspenseful Psychological Crime Thriller (Mind Games #2) by Meghan O'Flynn

Trust was a currency in short supply in our small town. It had been that way for as long as anyone could remember. Maybe even longer. People whispered behind closed doors, casting sideways glances at their neighbors as though they were waiting for the next betrayal to strike. It was a town built on secrets and lies, where no one could be sure of anyone else's intentions. The distrust ran deep, seeping into every crack and crevice of our community. It was there in the wary expressions of the shopkeepers, in the guarded conversations at the local diner, in the way that children played in tight-knit circles, keeping their distance from anyone they didn't know well. It was a town that thrived on suspicion, where rumors spread like wildfire and reputations were destroyed in an instant. I had seen it firsthand, the way that trust could be shattered in the blink of an eye. I had watched as friends turned on each other, as families fell apart, as the very fabric of our town unraveled before my eyes. It was a chilling sight, one that left me feeling exposed and vulnerable, like a lamb among wolves. But despite the pervasive atmosphere of distrust, there were still moments of connection. Small acts of kindness that reminded me that not everyone in our town was consumed by suspicion. It was those moments that gave me hope, that made me believe that maybe, just maybe, trust could be rebuilt. But until then, we would continue to live in a town where trust was in short supply, where everyone was guilty until proven innocent.
