When we see a piece of clothing with a price tag that seems too good to be true, it probably is. The fashion industry has become adept at hiding the true cost of cheap clothing, both from the consumer and the environment. In reality, the low price we pay at the checkout counter does not reflect the actual price of production. The garment worker who made that cheap t-shirt likely did not receive fair wages or safe working conditions. The materials used in the garment might have been produced in ways that harm the environment, polluting water sources and contributing to climate change.
