Mother's impact on McBride's life from "summary" of The Color of Water by James McBride
Ruth McBride Jordan, my mother, was a woman of strength and resilience. Born as Rachel Shilsky in Poland, she grew up in a household where abuse and poverty were the norm. Despite the hardships she faced, my mother was determined to create a better life for herself. She emigrated to America, where she eventually met and married my father. As a mother, Ruth was dedicated to providing for her twelve children. She worked multiple jobs to make ends meet, often sacrificing her own needs for the well-being of her family. Despite her busy schedule, she always made time for us, offering words of encouragement and wisdom when we needed it most. Ruth's impact on my life was profound. She instilled in me a strong work ethic and a belief in the power of education. Through her example, I learned the importance of perseverance and determination in the face of adversity. Her unwavering love and support gave me the strength to overcome my own struggles and achieve my dreams. My mother's unconventional approach to parenting, which included strict rules and high expectations, shaped me into the person I am today. While her methods may have been unconventional at times, I now realize that they were rooted in love and a desire to see her children succeed. Ruth McBride Jordan will always hold a special place in my heart. Her resilience, strength, and unwavering love have left an indelible mark on my life, shaping me into the person I am today. I am forever grateful for the lessons she taught me and the love she shared with me and my siblings.Similar Posts
