Darkness threatens to consume from "summary" of The Black Swan by Mercedes Lackey

There is a pervasive feeling in the air, a sense of foreboding that hangs heavy over the land. It is as though a great shadow looms, threatening to blot out the sun and plunge the world into eternal darkness. The people whisper in hushed tones, their faces drawn and fearful, as they speak of omens and portents that bode ill for the future. Everywhere you look, there are signs of impending doom. The crops wither in the fields, the livestock sicken and die, and even the very air seems to crackle with malevolent energy. It is as though the world itself is rebelling against the encroaching darkness, as though nature itself knows that something terrible is coming. But what is this darkness that threatens to consume us? Is it a physical darkness, a tangible force that we can fight and defeat? Or is it something more insidious, a darkness that lurks in the hearts of men and threatens to corrupt and destroy everything it touches? Whatever it is, we cannot ignore it. We cannot pretend that everything is normal, that the world will continue on as it always has. The darkness is coming, and we must be ready to face it, to fight against it with all our strength and courage. For if we do not, if we allow ourselves to be consumed by fear and despair, then the darkness will surely win. And once it has taken hold, once it has extinguished the light of hope and goodness, there will be no turning back. We must stand firm, we must be vigilant, for the darkness threatens to consume us all.
