Concept of karma explained from "summary" of The Bhagwat Gita by R. R. Varma
The concept of karma is one of the central teachings of the Bhagwat Gita. Karma is the law of cause and effect, the principle of action and reaction. It is the belief that every action we take, whether good or bad, will have a corresponding consequence. Karma is not just about the physical actions we take, but also about the thoughts and intentions behind those actions. It is the idea that our actions in this life will determine our fate in future lives. In essence, karma is the belief in cosmic justice, the idea that we will reap what we sow. The Bhagwat Gita teaches us that we should perform our duties without attachment to the results. In other words, we should focus on doing what is right without being concerned about the outcome. This is because the outcome of our actions is ultimately determined by karma, which is beyond our control. The Gita also emphasizes the importance of selfless action. By performing our duties selflessly, without thought of personal gain, we can purify our karma and progress on the spiritual path. Selfless action is seen as a way to break free from the cycle of birth and death, known as samsara.- The concept of karma teaches us to take responsibility for our actions and to strive for self-improvement. By understanding and accepting the law of karma, we can live a more conscious and intentional life, leading to spiritual growth and enlightenment.
