Transcending the cycle of birth and death from "summary" of The Bhagavad Gita by Swami Sivananda

The concept of transcending the cycle of birth and death is a central theme in the Bhagavad Gita. According to the teachings of Lord Krishna, individuals who are able to break free from the endless cycle of birth and death can attain ultimate liberation and salvation. This cycle, known as samsara, is characterized by the continuous process of birth, life, death, and rebirth. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna emphasizes the importance of understanding the true nature of the self in order to transcend the cycle of birth and death. He explains that the self, or Atman, is eternal and unchanging, and is distinct from the physical body and mind. By realizing one's true nature as the eternal Atman, individuals can free themselves from the cycle of birth and death. Lord Krishna also teaches that the cycle of birth and death is governed by the law of karma. Every action that an individual performs has consequences, which determine the circumstances of their next birth. By performing selfless actions and dedicating them to the divine, individuals can purify their karma and attain liberation from samsara. In order to transcend the cycle of birth and death, individuals must cultivate qualities such as selflessness, devotion, and detachment. By surrendering to the divine will and performing their duties without attachment to the fruits of their actions, individuals can overcome the cycle of samsara and attain freedom from the cycle of birth and death.
