I supported the formation of a new nation from "summary" of The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin by Benjamin Franklin

During the time in which I was living, there was much discussion and debate surrounding the idea of forming a new nation. Many of my fellow countrymen were growing increasingly discontent with the rule of the British government, and the desire for independence was gaining traction. I found myself among those who believed that it was time for us to break away from the oppressive rule of the British and establish a new nation founded on principles of liberty and democracy. I was inspired by the ideals of the Enlightenment, which espoused the rights of individuals to govern themselves and determine their own destiny. I believed that by breaking away from British rule and establishing our own nation, we could create a society that was more just, more equitable, and more free. I saw the formation of a new nation as an opportunity to create a government that truly represented the will of the people and protected their rights and freedoms. I threw myself into the cause of independence with all of my energy and resources.
