Ignoring reason leads to detrimental consequences for society from "summary" of The Assault on Reason by Al Gore

In a world where reason is increasingly under siege, the consequences for society can be severe. When individuals and institutions choose to ignore reason, they open the door to a host of detrimental outcomes that can harm not only themselves but the entire community. By turning away from logic and evidence-based decision-making, we risk making choices that are not in the best interest of our society as a whole. When reason is sidelined in favor of emotion, ideology, or personal gain, the results can be disastrous. Policy decisions that are not grounded in fact and reason are unlikely to address the real challenges facing our society. Instead, they may exacerbate existing problems or create new ones altogether. Without the guiding light of reason, we are left adrift in a sea of misinformation, manipulation, and division. Furthermore, when reason is ignored, it becomes easier for those in power to manipulate the truth and control the narrative. In a world where reason is not valued, misinformation can spread like wildfire, leading to a breakdown in trust and a weakening of democratic institutions. Without a commitment to reason, we are vulnerable to demagogues and authoritarians who seek to exploit our fears and prejudices for their own gain.
  1. Ignoring reason is a dangerous path that can lead to the erosion of the very foundations of our society. By championing reason and critical thinking, we can build a more just, equitable, and sustainable world for all. It is only by embracing reason that we can hope to overcome the challenges that lie ahead and create a better future for ourselves and future generations.
