Procrastinate with purpose from "summary" of The Art of Procrastination by John Perry

The key to successful procrastination is to do it with purpose. Many people mistakenly believe that procrastination is simply putting things off or avoiding work altogether. However, I argue that procrastination can be a valuable tool when used correctly. By procrastinating with purpose, you can prioritize your tasks and focus on what truly needs to be done. Instead of wasting time on trivial matters, you can use procrastination as a way to hone in on the most important tasks at hand. One way to procrastinate with purpose is to engage in what I call "structured procrastination. " This involves putting off the most important task by working on other tasks that are also important but perhaps less urgent. By doing this, you can still be productive while avoiding the pressure of tackling the most daunting task right away. Another way to procrastinate with purpose is to give yourself permission to take breaks and recharge. By allowing yourself some time to relax and rejuvenate, you can come back to your work with a fresh perspective and renewed energy. It's important to remember that procrastination is not always a bad thing. In fact, when done purposefully, it can actually increase productivity and creativity. So the next time you find yourself putting off a task, consider procrastinating with purpose and see how it can benefit you in the long run.
