Selfacceptance is crucial for happiness from "summary" of The Art of Happiness by Dalai Lama XIV Bstan-ʼdzin-rgya-mtsho,Howard C. Cutler

Self-acceptance is a concept that lies at the very heart of our ability to experience true happiness. It is the foundation upon which all other forms of contentment are built. Without self-acceptance, we are constantly seeking validation and approval from external sources, leading to a never-ending cycle of dissatisfaction and unhappiness. When we learn to accept and embrace ourselves fully, flaws and all, we free ourselves from the need for external validation. We no longer rely on others to define our worth or dictate our happiness. Instead, we find peace and contentment within ourselves, regardless of the opinions or actions of others. Self-acceptance allows us to cultivate a sense of inner peace and resilience that is not easily shaken by life's ups and downs. It enables us to approach challenges with a sense of calm and confidence, knowing that we are worthy and deserving of happiness regardless of external circumstances. Without self-acceptance, we are constantly at war with ourselves, trying to live up to impossible standards and expectations. This inner conflict only serves to perpetuate feelings of inadequacy and unworthiness, leading to a deep sense of unhappiness and discontent. By practicing self-acceptance, we can break free from this cycle of self-criticism and judgment. We can learn to embrace ourselves fully, with all our strengths and weaknesses, knowing that our worthiness is not dependent on external achievements or validation.
  1. Self-acceptance is the key to unlocking a deep and enduring sense of happiness and contentment. It allows us to live authentically and fully, embracing ourselves for who we are and finding joy in the simple act of being. When we learn to accept ourselves fully, we pave the way for a life filled with genuine happiness and fulfillment.
