The Battle of Buxar was a turning point in the history of British India. It took place on October 22, 1764, near the town of Buxar in present-day Bihar. The British forces, led by Hector Munro, faced off against the combined forces of the Mughal Empire, the Nawab of Bengal, and the Nawab of Awadh.
The British army, with its superior technology and discipline, quickly gained the upper hand in the battle. The Mughal emperor Shah Alam II, who was fighting alongside the Indian forces, was captured by the British after the defeat. This victory solidified British control over much of northern India.
