The concept of original sin is illogical and goes against reason from "summary" of The Age of Reason Original Edition(Annotated) by Thomas Paine

The idea of original sin, as it is commonly understood in religious doctrine, is fundamentally flawed and does not stand up to logical scrutiny. According to this concept, all humans are born with a sinful nature inherited from Adam and Eve, who disobeyed God's command in the Garden of Eden. This belief raises several logical and ethical problems that are difficult to reconcile. First and foremost, it is illogical to hold individuals responsible for the actions of their ancestors. How can a newborn baby be held accountable for a supposed transgression committed thousands of years ago? This notion of inherited guilt goes against the very principles of justice and fairness that are supposed to underpin moral and religious teachings. Furthermore, the idea of original sin is at odds with the concept of free will. If all humans are born sinful, then it follows that they have no choice in the matter and are predestined to commit sinful acts. This negates the idea of personal responsibility and undermines the moral agency of individuals. Moreover, the doctrine of original sin raises troubling questions about the nature of God. If God is just and merciful, how can he condemn innocent infants to a life of sin and suffering? This portrayal of God as a vengeful and arbitrary judge is inconsistent with the compassionate and loving deity that is often presented in religious texts.
  1. The concept of original sin is a problematic and illogical belief that does not hold up to rational scrutiny. It raises troubling questions about justice, free will, and the nature of God that are difficult to reconcile with basic principles of reason and morality. Ultimately, this idea serves to undermine the very foundations of religious faith and calls into question the validity of traditional theological teachings.
