Authority should be questioned rather than blindly obeyed from "summary" of The Age of Reason Original Edition(Annotated) by Thomas Paine
Throughout history, individuals have often been taught to unquestionably follow authority figures without challenging their decisions or beliefs. However, I propose that this blind obedience is not only detrimental to personal growth but also dangerous for society as a whole. When we unquestioningly obey authority, we relinquish our ability to think critically and independently. We become mere sheep following a shepherd, unable to form our own opinions or make informed decisions. This lack of questioning leads to a stagnant society where progress is hindered, and injustice goes unchecked. Moreover, blindly obeying authority can have devastating consequences. History is replete with examples of atrocities committed by those in power who were unquestioningly followed by their subjects. From tyrannical rulers to corrupt governments, blind obedience has allowed for the perpetuation of oppression and suffering. It is only through questioning authority that we can hold them accountable for their actions. By challenging their decisions and beliefs, we can ensure that those in power are acting in the best interest of the people they serve. Questioning authority promotes transparency, accountability, and ultimately, a more just society.- It is essential that we question authority rather than blindly obeying. By doing so, we not only empower ourselves as individuals but also contribute to the betterment of society as a whole. It is only through critical thinking and independent judgment that we can truly progress and create a more just and equitable world.
