Recognize manipulation tactics from "summary" of Surrounded by Narcissists by Thomas Erikson
Manipulation tactics can be subtle and hard to detect, especially when they are being used by someone close to you. These tactics are often employed by narcissists to control and manipulate those around them for their own benefit. It is crucial to be able to recognize these tactics in order to protect yourself from being manipulated. One common manipulation tactic used by narcissists is gaslighting. Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which a person makes someone question their own reality, memory, or perception. This can be done by denying that certain events occurred or by twisting the truth to make the victim doubt themselves. By making the victim doubt their own reality, the narcissist gains power and control over them. Another manipulation tactic used by narcissists is projection. Projection is when a narcissist attributes their own negative qualities or actions to someone else. By projecting their own flaws onto others, narcissists avoid taking responsibility for their actions and can manipulate others into feeling guilty or responsible for things they didn't do. Narcissists also use manipulation tactics such as love bombing and devaluation. Love bombing is when a narcissist showers someone with affection, compliments, and gifts in order to gain their trust and admiration. Once they have gained control over the person, they may switch to devaluation, where they criticize, belittle, or ignore the person to maintain power and control. It is important to be aware of these manipulation tactics and to trust your instincts if something feels off. By recognizing these tactics, you can protect yourself from being manipulated and maintain healthy boundaries in your relationships. Remember that you deserve to be treated with respect and honesty, and don't be afraid to speak up if you feel like you are being manipulated.Similar Posts
