Strive for excellence, not perfection from "summary" of Strengths Finder 2.0 by Tom Rath

In a world that often demands flawless performance, it can be easy to fall into the trap of striving for perfection in everything we do. However, this relentless pursuit of perfection can actually hinder our progress and prevent us from achieving our full potential. Instead of fixating on achieving perfection, it is far more beneficial to focus on striving for excellence in everything we do. Perfection is an unrealistic and unattainable standard that can lead to feelings of frustration and inadequacy. When we constantly seek perfection, we set ourselves up for disappointment and failure, as we are unlikely to ever reach this unattainable goal. On the other hand, excellence is a more realistic and achievable standard that allows us to continually improve and grow. By aiming for excellence, we give ourselves permission to make mistakes and learn from them. Rather than viewing mistakes as failures, we can see them as opportunities for growth and development. This shift in mindset allows us to approach challenges with a sense of curiosity and openness, rather than fear and anxiety. Excellence is about doing the best we can with the resources and abilities we have at any given moment. It is about striving to be better today than we were yesterday, and better tomorrow than we are today. By focusing on excellence, we can push ourselves to reach new heights and achieve our goals, without being weighed down by the impossible burden of perfection. In the quest for excellence, it is important to remember that progress is more important than perfection. Each small step we take towards our goals, no matter how imperfect, brings us closer to success. By embracing imperfection and focusing on continuous improvement, we can unlock our full potential and achieve greatness in all areas of our lives.
