The Night Journey and Ascension was a miraculous event in the life of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). It was a journey unlike any other, where the Prophet was taken from the Sacred Mosque in Mecca to the Furthest Mosque in Jerusalem, and then ascended to the heavens. The Night Journey and Ascension began when the Angel Jibreel came to the Prophet while he was sleeping in the house of Umm Hani. Jibreel opened the Prophet's chest and washed his heart with Zamzam water, symbolically purifying him for the journey ahead. The Prophet was then taken by the Buraq, a magnificent creature, on a journey through the heavens.
