Betrayal of Prophet Yahya from "summary" of Stories of the Prophets by Ismāʻīl ibn ʻUmar Ibn Kathīr

Prophet Yahya, also known as John the Baptist, was a righteous and pious prophet of God. He was the son of Prophet Zakariya, who was also a prophet. Yahya was known for his wisdom and devotion to God, and he was respected by the people for his teachings. One day, a wicked and corrupt ruler named Herod Antipas took an interest in Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip. Herodias reciprocated this interest and agreed to marry Herod Antipas, despite the fact that she was already married. This marriage was not only illegal but also immoral according to the laws of God. Prophet Yahya, being a righteous man, spoke out against this marriage and condemned Herod Antipas and Herodias for their sinful actions. He fearlessly proclaimed the truth and urged them to repent and seek forgiveness from God. However, Herod Antipas and Herodias were not pleased with Prophet Yahya's words and were angered by his condemnation of their actions. Herodias, in particular, harbored a deep grudge against Prophet Yahya and sought to silence him. She plotted with her daughter Salome to have Yahya killed in order to eliminate the threat he posed to her sinful lifestyle. Salome, under the influence of her mother's wicked intentions, danced seductively for Herod Antipas and his guests, who were so pleased by her performance that they offered her a reward. At her mother's behest, Salome requested the head of Prophet Yahya as her reward. Despite his reluctance, Herod Antipas agreed to fulfill her request in order to save face in front of his guests. Prophet Yahya was then unjustly beheaded, and his head was presented to Salome on a platter. The betrayal of Prophet Yahya at the hands of Herod Antipas, Herodias, and Salome serves as a tragic example of the consequences of standing up for the truth in the face of wickedness and corruption. Despite the injustices he faced, Prophet Yahya remained steadfast in his commitment to God and his teachings, and his martyrdom serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by the prophets in the name of righteousness and justice.
