Stoicism was a practical philosophy for daily life from "summary" of Stoicism by John Sellars

Stoicism was more than just a theoretical philosophy; it was a practical guide for how to live one's life. The Stoics believed that philosophy should be put into practice and used as a tool for navigating the challenges of daily life. They taught that the ultimate goal of philosophy was to achieve tranquility, or a state of inner peace, regardless of external circumstances. The Stoics believed that the key to achieving tranquility was to focus on what is within our control and let go of what is not. They taught that we should not waste our energy worrying about things that are outside of our control, such as the weather or other people's opinions. Instead, we should focus on cultivating virtues such as wisdom, courage, justice, and self-discipline, which are within our control. One of the central tenets of Stoicism was the idea of living in accordance with nature. The Stoics believed that humans are rational beings and that we should strive to live in harmony with the natural order of the universe. This meant accepting the inevitable ups and downs of life with equanimity and maintaining a sense of inner balance in the face of adversity. Stoicism also emphasized the importance of cultivating a sense of gratitude and contentment. The Stoics taught that we should be grateful for what we have and not constantly strive for more. By practicing gratitude and contentment, we can learn to find happiness and fulfillment in the present moment, rather than constantly chasing after external sources of pleasure or success.
