Stoicism taught the importance of focusing on the present moment from "summary" of Stoicism by John Sellars

The Stoics believed that the key to living a good life lies in focusing on the present moment. They argued that it is futile to worry about the past or the future, as these are beyond our control. Instead, we should focus on what is happening right now and do our best to respond to it with wisdom and virtue. By focusing on the present moment, we are better able to appreciate the beauty of life and fully engage with the world around us. The Stoics believed that by accepting the present moment as it is, we can find peace and contentment in our lives. This doesn't mean that we should ignore the past or the future altogether, but rather that we should not let them distract us from the here and now. According to Stoic philosophy, the present moment is all we have. The past is gone, and the future is uncertain. Therefore, it is important to make the most of the present moment and live each day to the fullest. By focusing on the present moment, we can cultivate a sense of mindfulness and awareness that allows us to respond to life's challenges with clarity and composure. The Stoics believed that by focusing on the present moment, we can cultivate a sense of inner peace and tranquility. This is because when we are fully present in the moment, we are not weighed down by regrets or anxieties about the past or the future. Instead, we can approach each moment with a sense of calm and equanimity, knowing that we have the strength and resilience to face whatever comes our way.
