Stoicism encouraged mindfulness and selfawareness from "summary" of Stoicism by John Sellars

Stoicism has long been associated with the idea of mindfulness and self-awareness. The ancient Stoics believed that one should constantly be aware of their thoughts, emotions, and actions in order to live a virtuous life. This mindfulness was seen as essential for achieving tranquility and inner peace, even in the face of adversity. The Stoics taught that one should be fully present in the moment, focusing on the here and now rather than dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. By practicing mindfulness, individuals could better understand their own motivations and desires, leading to greater self-awareness and a deeper connection to their true selves. Self-awareness was considered a key component of Stoic philosophy, as it allowed individuals to recognize their own strengths and weaknesses, as well as their values and beliefs. By cultivating self-awareness, one could better navigate the challenges of life and make decisions in line with their principles. In essence, Stoicism encouraged a deep introspection and reflection, in order to better understand oneself and one's place in the world. This self-awareness was seen as a path to personal growth and fulfillment, as individuals could strive to align their actions with their ideals and values.
