Birth of Ganesha from "summary" of Shiv Puran by Dr. Vinay

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati lived in Kailash with their sons Kartikeya and Ganesha. One day, Parvati decided to create a son out of turmeric paste to guard the entrance while she bathed. She gave the turmeric boy life and named him Ganesha. When Shiva returned, he found this boy standing at the entrance and blocking his way. Not recognizing Ganesha as his son, Shiva became angry and a fierce battle ensued between the two. In the heat of the battle, Shiva beheaded Ganesha with his trident.
