Seeking support is a sign of strength from "summary" of Scattered Minds by Gabor Maté, MD

In our society, we often equate strength with independence. We admire those who can handle everything on their own, who never ask for help. Seeking support, on the other hand, is often seen as a sign of weakness. But what if we were to consider a different perspective? What if we were to see seeking support as a sign of strength? When we seek support, we are acknowledging our limitations. We are recognizing that we cannot do everything on our own. This takes a great deal of self-awareness and humility. It takes courage to admit that we need help, that we cannot handle everything by ourselves. Furthermore, seeking support shows that we are willing to take responsibility for our own well-being. It shows that we are committed to our own growth and development. It is an act of self-care, an acknowledgment that we deserve to receive the help and support that we need. In seeking support, we are also opening ourselves up to new possibilities. We are allowing ourselves to learn from others, to gain new insights and perspectives. We are showing that we are open to growth and change, that we are not afraid to step outside of our comfort zones.
  1. Seeking support is an act of strength because it requires vulnerability. It requires us to be open and honest about our struggles, to be willing to be seen in our moments of weakness. It is a brave and courageous act, one that can lead to profound personal growth and transformation.
