Throughout my life, I have always believed in the power of standing up against injustice. It takes courage to speak out against what is wrong, even when the odds are stacked against you. In my own experience, this courage was put to the test on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. That day, as I sat on that bus, I knew that something wasn't right. The segregation laws of the time dictated that I, as a black woman, should give up my seat to a white person. But in that moment, I made a decision to take a stand. I refused to move, sparking a chain of events that would eventually lead to the Montgomery Bus Boycott. Standing up against injustice is not easy. It requires a deep inner strength and a willingness to face the consequences of your actions. In my case, I was arrested and faced backlash from those who disagreed with my actions.
