Arrest and trial from "summary" of Rosa Parks My Story by Rosa Parks,Haskins Parks

On December 1, 1955, I was arrested for refusing to give up my seat on a Montgomery, Alabama city bus. This act of defiance led to my trial and subsequent conviction for violating the segregation laws in place at the time. The arrest itself was a traumatic experience, as I was handcuffed and taken to jail. I was treated with disrespect and hostility by the police officers who arrested me, simply because I had stood up for my rights as a human being. My trial was a harrowing experience, as I faced a judge who was openly hostile towards me. The prosecutor painted me as a troublemaker and a threat to society, simply because I had refused to give in to the unjust laws that governed the city at the time. Despite the overwhelming odds against me, I remained firm in my conviction that I had done nothing wrong by refusing to give up my seat on that bus.
  1. As the judge seemed determined to find me guilty no matter what. I was ultimately convicted of violating the segregation laws and fined for my supposed crime. The experience was a stark reminder of the injustices faced by African Americans in the South during that time period. Despite the outcome of the trial, I remained steadfast in my belief that I had done the right thing by standing up for my rights.
