The importance of listening to our bodies' hunger cues from "summary" of Real Food by Nina Planck

When it comes to eating, our bodies have a lot to say. They know when we're hungry and when we're full. They know when we need certain nutrients, and when we've had enough of others. But in our fast-paced world, it's easy to ignore these signals. We get caught up in schedules and to-do lists, and we forget to tune in to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Listening to our bodies' hunger cues is crucial for maintaining a healthy relationship with food. When we pay attention to when we're truly hungry, we are more likely to make nourishing choices that satisfy us both physically and emotionally. We are able to enjoy our meals without guilt or restriction, knowing that we are giving our bodies what they need. Ignoring our hunger cues can lead to overeating or undereating, both of which can have negative consequences for our health. When we eat when we're not truly hungry, we tend to consume more than we need, which can lead to weight gain and other health issues. On the other hand, when we ignore our hunger cues and don't eat enough, our bodies may not get the nutrients they need to function properly. By listening to our bodies' hunger cues, we can also develop a deeper understanding of our own unique needs and preferences when it comes to food. We can learn to distinguish between physical hunger and emotional hunger, and to choose foods that truly nourish us. We can also become more attuned to how certain foods make us feel, and adjust our diets accordingly.
  1. It's important to remember that our bodies are the ultimate authority on what we need. By tuning in to our hunger cues and trusting our bodies to guide us, we can cultivate a healthy relationship with food that supports our overall well-being.
