Access to resources influences academic success from "summary" of Race, Class, and Education by Kenneth J. Meier,Joseph Stewart,Robert E. England

Access to resources significantly impacts academic success. Students from higher socio-economic backgrounds tend to have greater access to resources such as private tutors, educational materials, and extracurricular activities. These resources provide them with additional support and opportunities for enrichment that can enhance their academic performance. On the other hand, students from lower socio-economic backgrounds often lack access to these resources, putting them at a disadvantage in terms of academic success. In addition to socio-economic status, race also plays a role in access to resources. Minority students, particularly Black and Hispanic students, are more likely to attend schools with fewer resources and lower-quality facilities. This lack of resources can hinder their academic success by limiting their opportunities for learning and development. As a result, these students may struggle to keep up with their peers who have access to better resources. Furthermore, the quality of teachers and school leadership can also impact students' access to resources. Schools in wealthier communities are more likely to attract and retain high-quality teachers, while schools in low-income communities may struggle to attract and retain experienced educators. This disparity in teacher quality can have a direct impact on students' academic success, as teachers play a critical role in providing students with the support and guidance they need to excel academically.
  1. Access to resources is a critical factor in determining academic success. Students who have access to a wide range of resources, including educational materials, extracurricular activities, and high-quality teachers, are more likely to succeed academically. Conversely, students who lack access to these resources may face significant challenges in achieving academic success. As a result, addressing disparities in access to resources is essential in promoting equity and ensuring that all students have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
