Neoliberal policies perpetuate social and economic inequality from "summary" of Profit Over People by Noam Chomsky
Neoliberal policies, which have been championed by powerful elites, serve to deepen social and economic inequality. These policies prioritize the interests of corporations and the wealthy over those of the general population. The neoliberal agenda includes deregulation, privatization, and cuts to social services, all of which contribute to widening the gap between the haves and the have-nots. By reducing government oversight and control, neoliberal policies allow corporations to operate with little accountability. This results in practices that exploit both workers and the environment, further enriching the already wealthy while leaving the rest to struggle. Privatization of essential services such as healthcare and education means that access to these basic needs becomes increasingly stratified based on one's ability to pay. Moreover, the emphasis on cutting social programs under neoliberalism exacerbates existing inequalities. Those who are already marginalized are hit the hardest by reductions in services and support, while the wealthy continue to benefit from tax breaks and other incentives. This perpetuates a cycle of poverty and disadvantage that is difficult to break out of.- Neoliberal policies create a system where the rich get richer at the expense of everyone else. The concentration of wealth and power in the hands of a few leads to a society where opportunities are limited for the majority, while a select few amass untold riches. This unequal distribution of resources and opportunities only serves to reinforce existing social hierarchies and widen the gap between the privileged few and the rest of society.
