Economic inequality is a byproduct of profitdriven systems from "summary" of Profit Over People by Noam Chomsky

Economic inequality is an inevitable outcome of profit-driven systems. When the primary goal of a society is to maximize profit, wealth tends to accumulate in the hands of a few individuals or corporations. This concentration of wealth leads to a widening gap between the rich and the poor, as those at the top reap the benefits of the system while the majority struggle to make ends meet. In a profit-driven system, the pursuit of profit often takes precedence over other considerations, such as social welfare or environmental sustainability. Companies are motivated by the desire to increase their bottom line, leading them to prioritize cost-cutting measures and exploitation of resources. This can result in the exploitation of workers, environmental degradation, and other negative consequences. The drive for profit also leads to the commodification of virtually everything, as goods and services are produced primarily for their exchange value rather than their use value. This can result in the prioritization of products that are profitable over those that are necessary or beneficial for society as a whole. Furthermore, profit-driven systems tend to perpetuate existing power structures and inequalities. Those who already hold wealth and power are better positioned to take advantage of the system, further consolidating their advantage over those who are less privileged. This creates a cycle of inequality that is difficult to break, as those at the top continue to benefit from the system at the expense of those at the bottom.
  1. Economic inequality is a natural byproduct of profit-driven systems, where the pursuit of profit takes precedence over social welfare, environmental sustainability, and other considerations. This leads to the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few, the commodification of goods and services, and the perpetuation of existing power structures and inequalities.
