The fundamental nature of capitalism, as exemplified by the workings of the global economy, is one in which power is concentrated in the hands of a privileged few. This concentration of power is not incidental, but rather inherent to the system itself. Through mechanisms such as market forces and corporate influence, those in positions of power are able to exploit others for their own gain. This exploitation takes many forms, but at its core is the extraction of surplus value from the labor of workers. In a capitalist economy, workers are compelled to sell their labor power in exchange for a wage. However, the value of this labor power is always less than the value that the worker generates through their labor.
