First impressions can be deceiving from "summary" of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife. Such was the belief in the society of my time, where first impressions held a significant weight in determining one's worth. However, as I observed the interactions between individuals, I came to realize that these initial judgements were not always accurate. Take Mr. Darcy, for example. Upon our first meeting, I found him to be proud and arrogant, leading me to form a negative opinion of his character. Yet, as I came to know him better, I discovered that his demeanor was a result of shyness and social awkwardness, rather than genuine conceit. His actions spoke louder than his words, revealing a man of integrity and loyalty, qualities that far surpassed my initial impressions.
