Presumed Innocent is a legal thriller novel by American author Scott Turow, first published in 1987. The story follows Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor in a large metropolitan area who is charged with the murder of his colleague and former lover, Carolyn Polhemus. Sabich is forced to defend himself while facing the hidden agendas of those around him and an increasingly hostile public. As the trial progresses, Sabich must confront not just the evidence against him but also his own secrets and fears. The novel was later adapted into a 1990 feature film of the same name, starring Harrison Ford.
