Childcentered learning is essential for success from "summary" of Prepared by Diane Tavenner

Childcentered learning is at the heart of everything we do at Summit Public Schools. It is the foundation upon which our entire educational model is built. We believe that in order for students to truly succeed, they must be active participants in their own learning journey. This means placing the child at the center of the educational experience, allowing them to drive their own learning, set their own goals, and take ownership of their academic growth. When we talk about childcentered learning, we are talking about more than just letting students choose their own projects or topics of study. We are talking about a fundamental shift in the way we approach education. It is about recognizing that each child is a unique individual with their own strengths, weaknesses, interests, and learning styles. It is about tailoring the educational experience to meet the needs of each individual student, rather than expecting all students to fit into a one-size-fits-all model. Childcentered learning is about empowering students to take control of their own education. It is about fostering a sense of agency and independence in each child, so that they can become self-directed learners who are capable of setting goals, making choices, and solving problems on their own. This approach not only leads to better academic outcomes, but also helps students develop the essential skills they need to succeed in life beyond the classroom. By putting the child at the center of the educational experience, we are able to tap into their natural curiosity, creativity, and love of learning. We are able to create a learning environment that is engaging, relevant, and meaningful to each student. We are able to help students develop a growth mindset, resilience, and a passion for lifelong learning. Childcentered learning is not just a nice idea – it is essential for success in today's rapidly changing world.
