Building connections strengthens relationships from "summary" of Positive Discipline A-Z by Jane Nelsen, Ed.D.,Lynn Lott,H. Stephen Glenn
The foundation of any relationship is connection. When we take the time to truly connect with others, we strengthen the bond between us. Building connections involves not only being physically present, but also emotionally available. It means listening with empathy, showing understanding, and being open and vulnerable. In Positive Discipline, we emphasize the importance of building connections in order to create strong and healthy relationships. When we take the time to really connect with our children, partners, friends, and colleagues, we create an atmosphere of trust and respect. This in turn leads to better communication, cooperation, and problem-solving. Building connections involves being fully present in the moment. It means putting aside distractions and truly focusing on the person in front of us. This level of attentiveness shows the other person that we value them and that we are interested in what they have to say. When we build connections with others, we create a sense of safety and security. This allows for open and honest communication, as well as a willingness to work through challenges together. By strengthening our relationships through connection, we build a solid foundation that can withstand the test of time. In Positive Discipline, we encourage parents, teachers, and caregivers to prioritize building connections with children. By taking the time to connect with them on a deeper level, we create a sense of belonging and significance. This in turn leads to improved behavior, increased cooperation, and a stronger parent-child bond.- Building connections is essential for strengthening relationships. By being fully present, showing empathy, and fostering a sense of trust and respect, we create a solid foundation for healthy and lasting connections. This not only enhances our relationships with others, but also contributes to our overall well-being and happiness.
