Matter is made up of atoms from "summary" of Physics 11 by British Columbia. Schools Department. Curriculum Development Branch
The idea that matter is composed of atoms is a fundamental concept in the field of physics. Atoms are the building blocks of all matter in the universe. These tiny particles combine in various ways to form everything we see and interact with in our everyday lives. From the air we breathe to the food we eat, everything is ultimately made up of atoms.
Atoms themselves are incredibly small, so small that they cannot be seen with the naked eye. In fact, atoms are so small that even powerful microscopes struggle to capture their image. Despite their size, atoms are made up of even smaller particles called protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons are located in the nucleus of the atom, while electrons orbit around the nucleus in specific energy levels.
The different combinations of protons, neutrons, and electrons give each type of atom its unique characteristics. For example, an atom with one prot...
