In the course of one's life, it is often the case that opportunities arise which may offer a chance to rectify past errors or make amends for previous mistakes. These moments of second chances are valuable, as they provide individuals with the possibility to correct past missteps and set things right. In the novel Persuasion by Jane Austen, the character Anne Elliot is faced with such an opportunity when Captain Wentworth re-enters her life after many years apart.
