Oppressed must reject passivity from "summary" of Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire
The oppressed, in order to regain their humanity, must reject the passivity imposed on them by the oppressors. This passivity, which is a result of the oppressors' attempt to dehumanize the oppressed, must be resisted at all costs. By accepting their passivity, the oppressed are essentially allowing themselves to be oppressed further, perpetuating the cycle of dehumanization. Passivity keeps the oppressed from realizing their full potential and from actively participating in the transformation of their own reality. It is only through active engagement and critical consciousness that the oppressed can break free from the chains of oppression. By rejecting passivity, the oppressed can begin to see themselves as agents of change, capable of shaping their own destinies. The oppressors' goal is to keep the oppressed docile and compliant, to prevent them from questioning the status quo and challenging the oppressive systems in place.
